Everything You Need to Know About the New Apple iPhone 12 Line-Up

Last week, Apple announced the newest additions to its iPhone family – and they are pretty major. Not least because it wasn’t just one new phone, but four. The iPhone 12 line-up includes the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, each boasting impressive new features designed to make your ‘grams greater and your add-to-carts quicker. We had the opportunity to review the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro over the past few days (the Mini and the Pro Max launch later in November) – here’s what you need to know about the newest iPhone models.

They. Are. Quick.

And we mean, quick. The responsiveness on the new iPhone models is unparalleled, thanks to the integration of 5G across the whole range for the first time. Chances are you’ve seen 5G splashed across news headlines in recent months but if you’re in the dark as to what it actually means for you as a consumer, here’s the lowdown: 5G stands for fifth generation which simply means it is the fifth generation of wireless technology. The biggest drawcard of 5G is its speed – you can stream Emily in Paris or your favourite YouTube beauty tutorials in crystal-clear definition with zero delay, download the newest issue of FASHION from the app store in seconds and buy your new pair of winter boots in no time at all. The integration of 5G into the new iPhone models – as well as the 6.1 inch, Super Retina XDR display on both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro – also means you can make high quality FaceTime calls over cellular for the first time so whilst you might not be able to see your friends face-to-face right now, you’ll still feel as close as possible.

We all know that iPhone cameras are good but the new cameras on both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models are next-level-good. The iPhone 12 has a new dual-camera system which includes an all-new Wide Camera that has the fastest aperture on iPhone and captures 27 per cent more light (this wide camera is also offered on the Pro model). What that means for you is improved photos in any scenario, but particularly in lowlight – we’ve all admired a sunset and thought about how it would make a beautiful photo backdrop only to try and capture said selfie and realize you’re not actually visible in the shot. Now, with the new Wide camera, you can stand with the sun behind you and get the detail of the sunset and your outfit in equal measure.

The iPhone 12 Pro also has a 52mm telephoto camera that allows you to capture profile-worthy portraits and a LiDAR scanner which not only allows faster and more realistic AR experiences (particularly handy if you’re planning a home makeover or want to see how a new piece of furniture will fit/look in your space) but also delivers faster autofocus in lowlight, allowing you to capture the moment as it happens, and more detailed Night Mode portraits. iPhone 12 Pro is also the first in the world to directly record video (as well as offer editing, sharing and viewing capabilities) in Dolby Vision, bringing cinema-grade recording to your fingertips – for the vlog enthusiasts among you, this will be a gamechanger for content creation.

Other key features in the new camera offerings on both models include the Ultra Wide Camera which offers a 120-degree field of view, Night Mode which is even better thanks to improved brightness and stabilization features, a TrueDepth Camera on the front of the phone to deliver brighter and clearer Night Mode selfies, as well as 4K HDR recording (more on that in a minute), Deep Fusion which delivers incredible detail and texture and Smart HDR 3 which makes automatic adjustments to certain parts of your images for you so get amazing photos with minimal effort.

They’re packed with a bunch of other top features, too.

Perhaps one of the most important features of the new phones – particularly if you’re a dropper like Chandler – is the introduction of Ceramic Shield to the front of the phone. It looks like every other screen you own, except it has better scratch resistance and four times better drop performance. The phones are also water-resistant up to six metres for 30 minutes and resist accidental spills from coffee and soda, too, and are powered by the new A14 Bionic chip so they are incredibly fast.

And last but not least, they double as a chic accessory for the new season.

As much as we love the technical aspects of a new launch, the look of the phones is also important – and whether you’re drawn to metallics, monochrome or vibrant hues, there’s something to suit every style in the new iPhone 12 line-up. The iPhone 12 comes in black, white, (PRODUCT)RED, a peppy mint green and a deep blue, and the iPhone 12 Pro is available in four stunning finishes: graphite, gold, silver and an all-new pacific blue. The new range has also been designed to work with MagSafe accessories including a wireless charger (which guarantees a charge every time you connect thanks to an array of magnets on the charging coil which help the phone ‘click’ into place on the disk) and a slew of accessories, including cases and a Leather MagSafe wallet, available in a variety of colours to match your sartorial vibe. Simply slide them on and off as you would your favourite pair of white sneakers.

 

The iPhone 12 (starting at $1,129) and iPhone 12 Pro (starting at $1,399) are now available for pre-order, with delivery from October 23.

A Guide to Drinking Your Cannabis

If you’ve ever been curious about cannabis beverages that have popped up at your authorized cannabis retailer, we hear you. We were just getting used to all the new flower options and vaping apparatus, and now we have sparkling libations to potentially add to how we sip and chill during our leisure time.

Not to fear. Here’s our handy guide to get to know cannabis beverages.

First, the basics. A smoke-free way to consume cannabis, beverages include sparkling liquids and flavoured waters. Insider note: Because THC (a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that is known to produce the psychoactive, “high” affect) and CBD (the cannabinoid not associated with the “high” effect) are not water-soluble, brands must mix these elements with an emulsifier to blend them properly into liquid form.

What’s really great about these bevvies is that they range in the amount of CBD or THC — or both, as the case may be — that they contain. If you’re a newbie, best to start low and sip slow. Lower THC options include CBD dominant Veryvell sparkling water or beverages with just 2.5 mg of THC and CBD, such as the Little Victory sparkling beverages. Little Victory has a range of options including Dry Grapefruit and Dry Lemon, which have a more tannic mouthfeel, or Dark Cherry and Blood Orange, beverages that are more flavour forward.

For a medium dose, opt for an expertly made concoction with 5 mg of THC and 5mg of CBD, such as Mollo 5 — a crisp, lightly hopped beverage that’s great for backyard barbecues or post-game chilling. And if you are feeling adventurous, you could consider a brand that’s built on flavour: House of Terpenes consists of two sparkling tonics that celebrate the flavours of cannabis, which pair nicely with gourmet dinners.

Finally, some guidance on the effects. Unlike smoking flower or vaping, the onset time for cannabis beverages is not immediate — expect to wait about 15 to 30 minutes to two hours for the full effects to take hold.

At the end of the day, the adage that always holds is that one drink does not fit all. Every consumer experiences flavours, onset times and duration of effects that are unique to them. Mexican Pinwheels are a slightly spiced creamy chicken blend rolled up in easy to eat bite sized appetizer. Soft pillowy tortillas wrapped around colorful, amazing flavored filling are going to be a hit at your next gathering!

Mexican Tortilla Pinwheels

There is something about the color and easiness of pinwheels that make them so attractive. They are almost always the first to disappear at an event. The Mexican twist on the filling of these is  different from what’s usually served. It will be such a nice surprise to bite into them. Pinwheels are so easy to eat, no mess. Everyone loves them.

The awesome thing about pinwheels is how easy they are to make. They do require refrigeration to help them set up and stick all together. They are so nice to make ahead of time and pop them in the fridge and then you can move on to other things.  I love the smooth creaminess of these easy and super tasty little snacks.

Pinwheel Ingredients

Simple ingredients that are easy to find or have on hand.

  • Cream Cheese: Make sure it’s softened
  • Sour Cream: Full fat or low fat, both work great
  • Rotel Tomatoes: This is tomatoes with green chilies, make sure to drain them
  • Green Bell Pepper: Create texture and flavor
  • Chicken: Cooked and shredded
  • Mexican Cheese: This is a great blend of cheese that work well.
  • Taco Seasoning: The best is this homemade seasoning.
  • Green Onion: Chop these pretty finely
  • Cilantro: Brightens the flavor and makes it taste so fresh
  • Tortillas: Flour tortillas will roll the easiest.

How to Make Mexican Pinwheel Snack

Super easy to assemble and quick, just need a little time in the fridge.

  1. Mix: In a large bowl or stand mixer place all the ingredients except the tortillas. With the mixer or using a hand mixer beat together all the ingredients till smooth and creamy and mixed well.
  2. Roll: Spread about 1/4-1/2 cup of mixture on a tortilla leaving about an inch around the edges. Roll up tightly and cover really well with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  3. Slice: When ready to serve slice into at least 1 inch pinwheels.

Tips and Variations for Easy Mexican Pinwheels

Whether it’s a special occasion or just because, these Mexican Pinwheels are going to be a crowd pleaser!

  • Tortillas: You can use a wide variety of tortillas for these. Try flavored wraps or flatouts. I’d stick to flour based however, corn tortillas are not as soft and tend to fall apart.
  • Filling: You can add black beans, corn, and for extra spice try dicing a jalapeño or diced chilies in the filling
  • Cheese: The recipe calls for Mexican cheese which is usually a blend of 3 cheeses. This adds the best flavor combo and it’s usually finely grated which rolls up the best in the tortillas. You can easily sub out any other type of cheese you’d like. Cheddar, pepper jack, monterey jack, or even cotija will all work. I suggest finely grating what ever you use.
  • Refrigerate: Don’t skip this step. This makes sure the filling and tortillas meld together so they don’t come undone when you cut them.
  • Slicing:  Use a serrated knife and make sure you don’t slice them too thin. They’ll come undone.
  • Covering: When you put them in the fridge, make sure you cover them well so the ends especially don’t dry out. That’d be bad.

How to Use Mexican Taco Pinwheels

  • Lunch: These aren’t just for appetizers, they make great lunches. Easy to eat, little mess and kids love them. (Adults too)
  • Snacks: Better for you then crackers or junk food, these are perfect when you need a little snack
  • Potluck: Perfect for a gathering, for easier transportation don’t cut them until you arrive at your destination. Make sure you cover them tightly so they don’t dry out.
  • Serve: Serve with salsa or guacamole, or all by themselves. They are that good.
  • Dinner:  You can even use these for a light dinner served with  rice, fruit and veggies.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounce cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 10 ounce can rotel drained (tomatoes with green chilis)
  • 1/2 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 2 cups chicken cooked and shredded
  • 2 cups Mexican cheese shredded
  • 2 Tablespoons Homemade Taco Seasoning
  • 2 Tablespoons green onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped
  • 6 flour tortillas

Instructions

  • In a large bowl or stand mixer combine cream cheese, sour cream, rotel, bell pepper, chicken, cheese, taco seasoning, green onions and cilantro. Using the mixer or hand mixer beat together until smooth.
  • Place 1/4- 1/2 cup of the mixture on the tortilla and spread leaving about an inch from the edges. Roll up tightly and refrigerate for an hour.
  • Slice into one inch pinwheels and serve.

What’s the Difference Between Sprain and Strain?

Have you ever experienced having twisted your ankle? Or injuring your thumb because you used your hands to break your fall? Have you suffered from a painful muscle in your thigh or legs after running several miles?

Have you felt a sore muscle in your arms after lifting a heavy object several times? These pains are caused by sprains and strains but, which one is a sprain and which one is a strain? How do they differ from each other?

Distinguishing Between A Sprain and A Strain

Many people think that the words “sprain” and “strain” are the same thing, which is entirely wrong. A sprain refers to a tear or damage to the ligament due to being stretched to the limit.

Fibrous substances make up the ligaments. When too much pressure is applied to it as when you hit the ground with your knees or elbows or when you twist your ankles. A strain refers to stretched or torn tissues of the muscles.

Engaging in a strenuous activity continuously can cause a strain. A weightlifter that lifts weights that are heavier than what he is used to can suffer from muscle pain in the back or arms. The pain is caused by strained muscles on the arms, back, and even the legs.

Sprains and Strains and Their Causes

Sprains and strains usually happen to people who engage in sports or in a demanding workout. An athlete that accidentally falls on his knees in a basketball court may suffer from a sprained knee.

A serious sprain on the ankle or knee can prevent a person from walking since putting pressure on the sprain can be terribly painful.

Lifting a heavy object that is heavier than what you can lift can cause muscle strain. As you exert effort, the muscles bulge and expand until the tissues are torn.

The injury can cause pain and inflammation, as well as impede the flow of blood in the affected area. The inflamed tissues can cause excruciating pain.

Treatment of Sprain and Strain

When you have a sprain, the treatment that you need would depend on the severity of the injury. A mild sprain can go away after 24 to 48 hours of rest.

You must stop using the area that has been injured. If you have a sprained ankle or knee, you might have difficulty walking until it heals. You can put ice on the inflamed or swollen area to reduce swelling and pain.

You can place an ice bag above the ankle or knee for 30 minutes until the swelling alleviates. Pain medication can help reduce your suffering. Serious sprains can cause a bone to be fractured. In this case, seeing a doctor is of utmost importance.

Strains are treated in almost the same way as sprains. Taking a rest for a day or two can help end the soreness. Using cold or hot compress can also help. Some people who suffer from torn muscle tissues may take pain killers to reduce the pain.

Others go for a massage therapy wherein the painful muscle areas are given a massage to stimulate the flow of blood and hasten the healing of the injured muscles.

Unlike in sprains where it is advised not to use the injured part, in strains, the part must be used frequently. This will prevent scarring in muscle tissues, which can prevent blood flow and affect the healing process of the muscle tissues that were strained. For some types of sprains and strains, recovery may take a few days to several weeks and even months.

Prevention of Sprains and Strains

Sprains and strains can be prevented by taking several precautions. If you are playing active sports, wearing protective gear such as a knee pad is important.

When a person falls, the pressure is absorbed by the knee pads so that its effect of the knees is minimised. You must wear comfortable and perfectly fitting shoes to avoid accidents.

To prevent strains, always do some warm-up exercises to stretch your muscles and prepare for the exercise that you will perform. Being consistent in doing your exercise routine every day can help condition the muscles. Sticking to a nutritious diet can help strengthen your bones.

Knowing the difference between a sprain and a strain can help you prevent them. You can immediately apply the correct remedy or find the right treatment to prevent more damage to the injured part.

The Celebrities Who Have Withdrawn From SAS Australia So Far

SAS Australia - the brutally raw, military-style show from the UK - is underway and already being praised as the best reality TV show of 2020.

The premiere episode began with a warning: "This program contains scenes of physical danger and mental stress that some viewers may find confronting." And rightly so. It was loaded with action and intensity, and even included a challenge that required contestants to jump out of helicopters into freezing cold water.

If you're not familiar, SAS follows the same format as British series, SAS: Who Dares Wins, and sees 17 Aussie celebs including Honey Badger, Roxy Jacenko, Ali Oetjen and Candice Warner, undergo the selection process for the elite Army Special Forces (the SAS).

Ex-Special Forces soldiers, including Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, put them through a series of gruelling physical and psychological challenges, like sleep deprivation and interrogations, to reveal if they have what it takes.

Each episode if a contestant can't hack it, they're give the option to withdraw from the series. Here we keep track of everyone who has withdrawn so far.

Ahead of last nights premiere of SAS Australia, viewers didn't know what to expect other than the fact that the military-styled show was said to fill the Australian Ninja Warrior-shaped void in their lives. And boy did it deliver.

If you're not familiar, SAS follows the same format as British series, SAS: Who Dares Wins, and sees 17 Aussie celebs take on the selection process for the elite Army Special Forces (the SAS). Ex-Special Forces soldiers, including Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, lead them through an array of physical and psychological challenges, like sleep deprivation and interrogation, and even jumping out of planes, to see if they're up to the challenge.

The SAS Australia recruits include the likes of convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby, former Bachelor and rugby union player Honey Badger, PR guru Roxy Jacenko and retired ironwoman Candice Warner.

The first episode began with a warning: "This program contains scenes of physical danger and mental stress that some viewers may find confronting." And it absolutely did, from jumping out of helicopters into freezing cold water, to hand-to-hand combat and Roxy's early exit, the show delivered on all fronts.

Overall, there was two main take aways from from last nights premiere: 1) SAS was the kind of reality TV series we needed to turn 2020 around. And 2) Schapelle is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Creamy, smooth tangy Yum Yum Sauce

Homemade Yum Yum Sauce

Yum Yum Sauce is a staple at Japanese Hibachi restaurants, although it’s not something you’d find handedly in Japan. It’s an North American thing, but oh is it good. Hibachi is a method of cooking meat, vegetables and seafood on a high heat metal cooking plate. This sauce is almost always on the table, with your meal.

This is so easy and simple to make you’ll wonder why you’ve waited so long to try it. You can find Yum Yum Sauce sold at stores, but this is so much easier and so much better!

How to Make Yum Yum Sauce Ingredients

Simple ingredients but big on flavor.

  • Mayo: The creamy base
  • Rice Vinegar: Adds a zing of deliciousness but is a MUST for that added touch in this Yum Yum Sauce
  • Tomato Paste: Do not substitute this with ketchup. Big no no.
  • Paprika: There are a range of flavors in paprika stick to the sweet not smoky ones
  • Garlic Powder: Flavor enhancer
  • Sugar: Counter acts the acid in the tomato paste and binds everything together.
  • Butter: May sound weird but it’s a crucial part of the yum yum
  • Salt and Pepper: Add to taste
  • Water: Thins the sauce to the right consistency.

Make it Yummy!

This must have sauce is so simple to make you won’t have to go to a Japanese Steak house to get it!

  1. Mix: In a small bowl whisk all the ingredients but the water together. Then thin with the water to desired consistency.

How to Use Yum Yum Sauce  

Similar to what many call “Fry Sauce” but different, this sauce can be used in a variety of ways. It’s so versatile, it should be a staple in your fridge for sure.

  • Drizzled over fried rice and noodles
  • With grilled chicken, meat and seafood
  • Slathered on hamburger and hot dog buns
  • With French fries and sweet potato fries
  • As a dipping sauce for potstickers and wontons
  • As a vegetable dip
  • With sushi and rice balls
  • In pasta salads
  • In potato salads
  • As a salad dressing
  • On baked potatoes

Tips and Storing Sauce

  • Variety: This is definitely a great base sauce, if you need to add more or less seasoning to your liking go for it. Add some cayenne, a splash of vinegar or extra pepper. You decide.
  • Let it set: The longer the sauce sits before you use it the better, if you can plan to make a day ahead. It gives time for the flavors to meld.
  • Store: This is best kept in the fridge for up to 10 days. However this is so easy to make and so good, you can make small batches and make it fresh every time you need it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Melted Butter
  • salt and pepper
  • 2-3 Tablespoons water

Instructions

  • In a small bowl whisk the mayonnaise, rice vinegar, tomato paste, paprika, garlic powder, sugar, butter and salt and pepper.
  • Add water as needed to get the desired consistency.

Meet Mariel Widmon: Yoga Brought Me Home

Join Mariel every Monday as she takes over the Wanderlust TV LIVE studio with an intense HIIT Strength and Mobility class that promises to leave you feeling powerful and ready to start the week on the strong side.

Half English, half Mexican (with an American accent), Mariel has practiced Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow yoga around the world for over a decade. Leaving behind her high powered and high-stress corporate job that left her unfulfilled and unhappy, she achieved her longtime dream of becoming a yoga teacher in the hopes of sharing with others the countless ways it has positively impacted her life. Mariel shares a passion for life coaching and nutrition that together with yoga have become the pillars for her business Mindful Sonder – a holistic approach to wellbeing.


How did Yoga enter your life? Was it love from the first sight?

Yoga entered my life because of my mom. Growing up I had a very fractured relationship with her and it wasn’t until I left for university (at the tender age of 16!) that we start to make amends. My family moved to Malaysia where my mom was introduced to yoga and meditation and it changed her life. Yoga became something we did together, to help us bond and heal. It’s been a long journey and no, it was not love at first sight. But yoga has a way of getting to you, whether you seek it or not. I was searching for myself and yoga brought me home.

What is the intention you carry as you share these sessions online? What essence are you hoping is transmitted through the practice that goes beyond just watching someone on a screen?

I want students to connect with the joy of the practice, as well as its deep lessons that go beyond the physical. Growing, learning, evolving can be a challenging journey, so finding the lightness as we navigate the darkness is important. My intention is to inspire and empower and I hope that comes across in my classes.

As you’re a teacher, you’re also a student. How does your personal learning journey continues as you step on the mat learning as opposed to teaching?

I think the best teachers will always be the most dedicated students. The learning never stops so for me I will always consider myself to be first and foremost a student. It is through my own experiences that I am able to share my learnings in a relatable fashion.

What would be the one piece of advice you could give to the Wanderlust TV streamers to deepen the connection with a teacher during their online practice?

We are all interconnected. Though we may not be in the same room, we move and breathe together—with one universal heartbeat.

If you could have dinner with an influential persona in the history of Yoga, who would it be and why?

I actually met and practiced with Pattabhi Jois when I was a teenager. I wish I had realized then what an important figure he was and perhaps because I didn’t, would love to be able to go back and get to know him a bit better. In truth, if I were not limited to yogis specifically, my all-time hero is Brené Brown. Her teachings in vulnerability, shame and belonging resonate so deeply with me and are so relevant in our practice.

Jess’ Top Four Tips for Glowing Skin

I know how much glowing, healthy, flawless skin can boost your confidence – so today I’m sharing my top four tips on how to improve your skin health and appearance!

1. Drink plenty of water.

Water plays a really important role in digestion, absorption of nutrients, and removing toxins from your body. Drinking more water flushes these toxins out, and boosts the moisture of your skin – so you can get the glowy skin you’ve always wanted!

If you’ve ever felt like your skin is dry or flakey, this is often the sign you’re not drinking enough water. Aim for at least 2L per day, to help get the radiant glow you’re looking for!

2. Eat more healthy fats.

Omega-3 fatty acids are SO important for skin health. Found in foods like avocado, nuts and seeds, oily fish and olive oil, these fats provide hydration and elasticity to your skin.

They also help reduce inflammation in the body, which is so helpful if you suffer from dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis. This is because omega-3s can improve your skin barrier function, to keep moisture in and irritants out!

3. Get enough sleep!
