Harry opted for a grey polo, jeans and sneakers, whilst Meghan chose a flowy white midi dress for the occasion.

The chic dress is by sustainable brand MagicLinen and is made using 100 per cent European flax. It’s also OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals. Meghan paired the piece with two-tone ballet flats, a black leather crossbody and a straw hat from Janessa Leoné.

Exclusive: Behind the Scenes of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Show With Virginie Viard

Earlier this month, Chanel unveiled the campaign images for its 2020 Métiers d’Art collection. The collection itself was monumental for the house, as it was the first Métiers d’Art range to be designed solely by creative director Virginie Viard following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld in February of last year. Now, FASHION is pleased to share an exclusive video – shot by the legendary Sofia Coppola – that goes behind-the-scenes at the atelier and the Grand Palais the day before the runway show (which was held on December 4, 2019).

The film opens with Coppola following Viard as she attends final fittings in the atelier. Viard, who can be seen putting the finishing touches on outfits (there were 60 in total), says, “Today is OK, because everything is done and I like to dress the girls. It’s a nice time.”

The film also follows Viard as she arrives to the Grand Palais to view the runway set, which was designed in collaboration with Coppola. The set featured a recreation of Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment, the Haute Couture salons and the iconic mirrored staircase at 31 rue Cambon. Of the design, Coppola shares, “We talked about girls going to a party and how you want to dress up. I thought about them going down a staircase and into a party, that was the feeling.”

Viard, who remains incredibly calm across the video despite what was certain to be a stressful time, can be seen backstage moments before the show begins. Coppola asks if she feels ready for the show to which the designer replies, “Yes, I’m happy. I’m excited, too.”

The film offers a fascinating look at the world behind the runway, and also an insight into the creative process and style of Viard. Find your front row seat to all the fabulous action below:

Stick of Butter Baked Rice

Looking for the perfect side dish to create a comforting family meal?  This stick of butter rice recipe is super easy and turns out fluffy and flavorful every time.  The French onion soup adds a sweet depth of flavor along with the butter that is so rich an makes the rice so moist and soft.  It is both filling and delicious!

This will be a family favorite rice that you will find yourself making with everything!  It is so versatile and even picky eaters will go crazy over it!  Just toss 4 simple ingredients together, cover it with foil, set it in the oven, and you are done!  This is a must try rice recipe that is SO good!

Rice Ingredients:

Just 4 basic ingredients incorporate together so well to make the best rice ever!  It is both crowd-pleasing and easy to make.  You will want to make this rice over and over!

  • Long grain rice: Do not use instant rice.
  • French onion soup: Adds sweet and savory onion flavor to the rice.
  • Beef broth: Keeps the rice moist as it cooks, resulting in soft and fluffy rice.
  • Butter: Sliced and mixed together with the onion soup, beef broth, and butter.

How to Make Baked Rice:

This amazing recipe is so simple and comes together so quickly.  Start by stirring all your ingredients together, then place the dish in the oven where it will bake to perfection.   The delicious smell will fill your home while you wait.  When it is done, just fluff, serve, and enjoy!

  1. Prep: Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a 8×8 or 2 quart dish add the rice, French onion soup, beef broth, and butter.
  3. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 30 more minutes. Remove from oven, fluff with a fork and serve!

Variations for Butter Rice:

You can leave this rice plain for a perfect kid friendly, savory rice.  Or load it up with some favorites like crumbled bacon or mushrooms.  Either way, this rice will turn out to be the star of the meal and will feel more like the main dish than a side.

  • Add ins: Sliced mushrooms, bacon crumbles, or diced onions.
  • Serve with: Parmesan Chicken Tenders, Smothered pork chops, Crock Pot pork chops.
  • Toppings: Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top adds a nutty flavor that is perfect with this rice.
  • Rice: Use wild rice or brown rice instead of white rice.  Tip: Brown rice may take longer to cook.
  • Soup: Swap out the French onion for cream of mushroom soup.
  • Sauces: Add in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, or beef consomme for even more flavor.

Storing Stick of Butter Rice:

This rice is also awesome as a take and bake meal option.  Prepare the rice in the dish but do not bake.  Cover with aluminum foil that has baking instructions written on it.  Take it to a friend or family member to bake and enjoy.  They will be so amazed at the flavor!!

To store already baked rice, cool rice to room temperature before packing it in a sealed container.  If you store your cooked rice in the refrigerator, it will be good for up to 6 days.  Or, to keep it longer, freeze it for up to 6 months.

My gut health healing story!

I’ve struggled with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for over 8 years now with symptoms ebbing and flowing throughout that time. Passing foul smelling gas, pregnant looking painful bloating and alternating between diahorrea and constipation have all been ‘normal’ for me. In an ongoing effort to heal my gut health, I’ve worked with GP’s, dietitians, gastroenterologists and most recently, nutritionist Jessica Cox from The JCN Clinic. I understand most people don’t talk about these embarrassing conditions but the reality is that many people struggle with IBS, (1 in 4 actually). So, I just want to share what I have learnt and tried to help other’s who might also be battling an unhappy gut.

Experience with a variety of health professionals

Prior to Jes, the most helpful experience I’ve had was working through the low FODMAP elimination diet. Like most gut health remedies, it was time consuming and required a lot of effort adhering to a specific diet, so it’s not an experience I would recommend doing without the support of a nutritionist or dietitian. I discovered onion and garlic are a no-go for me and I needed to limit my lactose intake. I also noted the impact stress had on the severity of my symptoms.

I can’t say I had much help through the GP or gastroenterologist, other than ruling out any medical conditions like irritable bowel disease or coeliac disease. I was basically told I have IBS, no one knows the cause and you just need to do what you can to manage the symptoms. Believe it or not, a gastroenterologist told me if I am busy and stressed during the day, to just do what she does and don’t eat anything all day, only dinner at night when you’re relaxed.

Meeting Jes

Jes and I met a few years back when we went to Cobram Estate in Victoria. She’s very down to earth so we got on very well and stayed friends. Hearing about her work I had thought many times, I really need to book in to see her! But to be honest, having spent so long working with other professionals I thought I had done most of it anyway. Elimination diets are bloody hard work so I didn’t want to sign my self up for that while life was stressful (hubby was deployed and travelling overseas with the army a lot for two years straight so it was the kids and I alone for that time which was hard work!).

Decided to bite the bullet

Finally, we were posted to Queensland and Reis had a position that involved less travel and life was looking like it would be slightly more balanced, so I decided to start working with Jes on my gut – which was a real mess again.

Defining causes not just managing symptoms

What I LOVED the most about working with Jes was that she is committed to using reliable testing sources (ie. in a controlled environment of a laboratory) to determine what is causing the IBS symptoms you’re experiencing. Whilst the stool sample testing was costly (around $500 with no health fund rebate) and gross, I decided that having suffered long enough it was a worthwhile investment in my health. I was not disappointed and it was actually fascinating to get an insight into my gut health.

The results and goals post testing

The testing results were so extensive – they were 20 pages long! I was impressed with the detail it went into and the explanations provided for things outside of the normal range too. I won’t bore you here with names of various bacteria etc (feel free to contact me if you’re really keen on the details), but here’s the four main things the testing showed that was abnormal in my gut:

  1. Inflammation and permeability of the gut lining (low levels of Sectretory IgA and certain important bacteria to keep the gut lining health at low levels);
  2. Overgrowth of some bacteria;
  3. Low levels of some bacteria; and
  4. High yeast presence.

Issues in the gut can affect your mind and other areas of the body

What surprised me the most is that these results explained things like:

  • my achey finger and toe joints (caused by permeability in the gut lining)
    • my poor gut lining was also contributed to by low levels of certain bacteria. This bacteria is important because it produces short chain fatty acids (SCFA) for keeping you gut lining healthy.
  • my ridiculous amounts of bloating, wind and systemic fatigue/brain fog could be explained by a high yeast presence.
  • My poor mental health could be partially contributed to by the overgrowth of bacteria in the gut.

Treatment and management post testing

Jes prescribed me a combination of a dietary protocol and a range of supplements to be taken at various times throughout the day.

  • We utilised anti-microbials and anti-fungals to reduce the dysbiotic bacteria and yeast.
  • Other supplements to:
    • support the beneficial bacteria growth in the large bowel to create a healthy environment for microbiome,
    • reduce inflammation of the gut lining and support increase of secretory IgA
  • The initial dietary protocol was low reactive and low in starch, sugars and fructoligosaccharides to ‘starve’ high levels of more adverse bacteria and yeast.
  • Food reintroductions slowly occurred to identify tolerability, increase diversity in the diet and support low growth bacteria.

Tell me healing supplement names and more dietary details!

For those who have gut issues that seam similar, you might be wondering which specific supplements or dietary protocols I followed. I have decided not to share in depth because I’m passionate about people using qualified health professionals to heal their issues, not Dr Google or Dr Health Blogger. Every person is different and it’s important to have a professional nutritionist specialising in gut health walk through this process with you.

 

A health professional is important for support too

Make no mistake, this healing process is hard; it’s lengthy, somewhat emotional and time consuming while you learn a new way of cooking and eating. This is just another reason that you need a qualified nutritionist to walk this journey with you. The pep talks and the tweaks in dietary prescription to suit your lifestyle are essential to you seeing success. It would be near impossible to do this alone from a support perspective but also to give individual flexibility to your plan you need detailed knowledge of how the gut works and responds to varying nutrients and external factors.

Individual health needs to consider

You also might have health issues that change your prescription, for example, I was breastfeeding. For this reason, it also meant my healing process took longer as we decided to start on lower doses of lower strength anti-fungals and anti-microbials. The increased length of time meant Jes’ encouragement and check ins were essential to keeping me on track.

The current outcome

Six months into this journey I am SO PLEASED to say that I’ve not had offensive gas for over 4 months (going out without being worried my gut will explode is so nice). ver the last month my bloating has significantly reduced and I can even see abs again! My gut hardly ever feels tender and sore now either and most surprisingly, my aches in my finger and toe joints have disappeared too!

We are presently testing and reintroducing foods now that my gut lining has strengthened and my microbiome is more balanced. I do notice a flare up of bloating still if I have a combination of stress and high inflammatory foods like gluten (however it’s never at the point of ‘need to be in bed’ bloating pain levels). Hopefully this will ease as we continue to support the building of gut lining and reducing the yeast presence.

Brittany Hockley on Body Dysmorphia & Social Media - "My Journey to Body Positivity Took a Long Time"

Recently, I was listening to Life UnCut, the Aussie podcast hosted by Bachie Alum Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, when they decided to tackle a topic that hit really close to home, body dysmorphia.

If you're not familiar with body dysmorphic disorder, it's when someone finds a slight fault or imperfection in their appearance and they become obsessive over it resulting in severe emotional distress and difficulties in daily functioning. People who have BDD think about their real or perceived flaws for hours each day. They can't control their negative thoughts and don't believe people who tell them that they look fine. And let me tell you, it's very real and more common than you might think.

As someone who firmly believes in normalising the conversation around these types of topics, and personally still struggles with BD, I found this podcast to be really insightful and relatable. The girls opened up about their journeys with BD, how common it is, especially among young women, the warning signs and how it can come in a range of forms.

So impressed and intrigued by the episode, I decided to catch up with Brittany to learn a bit more about her journey, to sing my praises for tackling such a tricky topic and to get her tips for shifting the way we see ourselves - hint: it includes cleansing your social feeds.

POPSUGAR Australia: Recently on Life Uncut, you guys decided to tackle the topic of Body Dysmorphia, what made you want to unpack a topic that's usually sidestepped?

Brittany: We think that people can often shy away from topics that they deem too hard to tackle, too confronting, or that people feel come with some level of shame or embarrassment attached to it. Laura and I are aware that we have a very large female-dominated audience and that many of these women are quite young and impressionable. In fact, we have just this week hit two million downloads on the podcast in nine months worth of episodes! That is huge! And knowing that many of these women look up to us, well, we take that role very seriously.

The reason we started the podcast was so that we could provide a platform where anyone, especially our female listeners and followers, could have a safe space to ask questions anonymously, to feel less alone, less embarrassed, less scared of life. To know that others go through exactly what they are going through and to just have a place they can go to just have a solid belly laugh and feel like they are chatting to their girlfriends or a big sister. We want to empower people to chase their dreams, know their worth, educate themselves and just put the wheels into motion to create a life they are happy and proud of!

PS: Laura and yourself both shared your different experiences with BDD, can you tell us a bit more about your journey to body positivity and where BD started for you?

Brittany: We recently spoke about BD as we feel it is far more common than people may think. There are varying degrees of it, some are very serious and some are on a much smaller scale, but both can be very damaging and hard to live with. We have both experienced it in different ways. For me, it started as a teenager. I saw something in the mirror that wasn't really there. I was a small, fit size 8. But what I saw looking back at me wasn't that. I saw something much bigger, saw myself as unattractive and thought no-one could possibly like me how I am. Obviously, that is crazy thinking! But at the time I truly believed it. I believe it started when I was training a lot, I used to compete at national levels and there was always a lot of pressure to always look, act and feel 100 percent. But looking back, I think most of that pressure just came from me. I fought these feelings for a long time and definitely took it into adulthood. I still don't always look in the mirror and see what others see, I have my days like everyone does, but I am aware of it now so it is so easier for me these days. I can rationalise these thoughts now so it doesn't have the same effect for me that it once did. It was most prevalent when I was a teenager and early 20's which is why I want to speak about it now, so others can learn from it.

For Laura, her insecurity was her skin. She looked at it like it was the worst, most hideous thing in existence. She couldn't look people in the eye or have long connected conversations because all she would think about was that they were staring at how bad her skin was. Which of course they weren't. She still battles that a little now after developing melasma after having a baby. So she wants people to know about that part of pregnancy. Even now she will say "Look how bad my skin is" which baffles me because I mean, you've seen her, she is stunning! It's in her head. Like it was in my head. No-one else notices these things and we are all too hard on ourselves. But just because you know that doesn't necessarily make it easier.

My Journey to body positivity took a long time. I have always really been into health and fitness and wouldn't go a day without training, I used to punish my body if I ate something bad. I think what really helped me was travelling the world. I know that sounds crazy, but it is true. I went on this huge nearly three year round the world trip with my sister Sheri. During that time our training went down to almost nothing. It only really included what we would do on our adventures, like hiking and riding etc. We ate all the food in every country! And in turn, my body changed. I put on weight, my six pack disappeared, I got bigger boobs and curves and I didn't mind it because of the experiences I was having. I realised it doesn't change who I am. Also travelling to a lot of the poorer countries that we did really put life into perspective for me. I realised what matters most, what is important and how lucky I am. Perspective really helped me.

PS: Social media has a big role to play in the way we see ourselves, both negative and positive, and as a public figure, you've probably experienced it all. How do you feel about the role we allow it to play when it comes to how we look?

Brittany: Social media can be the greatest, funniest, inspiring and most influential platform! But it can be a very dark place too, unfortunately. It depends on how you use it. There was a stage early on where I was constantly comparing myself to everyone else, wanting to be better, to travel more, to have their life. We have all been guilty of that. The FOMO is real. But social media isn't real. Well, not always. The point is you just never know. I was seeing all these people online and thought they were so perfect, then I would see them in real life and not even recognise them! Because of the likes of photoshop and filters etc. I am guilty of often posting nice pictures and flattering photos and doing all the fun activities, but I also post silly videos that people can relate to and I will post photos that are make up free with no filters so that people can see that it's not all rainbows. Another reason we started the podcast was so that we could have really open and unfiltered conversations about things we feel are important and will impact someone's life. I want to be an inspiration to someone, I was to be the reason someone smiles today, the reason someone can pull themselves out of a bad situation or relationship, the reason someone wants to take a chance on something in life and most importantly the reason someone can feel good about themselves and know that they are perfect and enough just the way they are. If I can help just one person in that way it is worth it for me.

Someone recently commented on my photo and told me I had "really chunked out." I didn't know them. It was completely out of line and out of context. They were just being nasty. Once upon a time that would have upset me. Now I can say to myself that the problem is this person and not me. They don't know me so their opinion doesn't matter. That is the downside of social media though. It gives people a platform to say whatever they like. It is important you know how to handle it and create a space and feed that makes you feel good. If it's not doing those things for you, change your situation.

PS: We found the way you guys tackled the conversation really insightful. You expanded the conversation to include varying types of BD, not just focusing on weight . . .

Brittany: There are so many types of BD so it is important people know about them and recognise them so that if it is something they are suffering they can ask for help and know that they aren't alone. That's literally the point of every episode that we do. We do it because we feel it is relevant to our listeners and feel it is something they can hopefully benefit from, something we wish we had have known!

PS: You both mentioned how learning to live with BDD is an ongoing process, what do you personally do to help reverse those negative thoughts?

Brittany: I think most people will struggle with something in this realm for their entire life. It is such a shame, but because of the world we live in we are perpetually wanting more, trying to be better, prettier, skinnier, fitter, smarter, more successful, younger. It's a vicious cycle but because of celebrities culture, social media perfection and media, in general, making us feel like we have to be perfect to be successful, this problem is very prevalent. The industry is definitely changing which is amazing to see, but we still have a way to go! I think it is really important to make sure you are only following people online that make you feel good or add something to your life! If they make you feel shitty about yourself, unfollow them. It is that easy. You are in charge of what you are shown on your feeds every day, so make sure it is adding some kind of value.

PS: You also mentioned how you've switched up your social media feed so you're empowered by the content you consume, can you share some of your favourite Instagram accounts to follow for a more positive feed?

Brittany: I love to follow lots of different feeds for different reasons. I love Karina Airby because she is Aussie, so real and raw and unfiltered, it's next level. But she's also super funny and super successful, so I think that's a pretty great combo. Chrissy Tegan because she is beautiful and also super successful but she shows life how it really is, not just all the glitz and glam. She's also super funny and shuts down trolls like no-one I've ever seen. It's epic. Love a bit of Rebel Wilson, she just owns life and has worked hard to get where she is. She is intelligent, funny, real and shows all parts of life. She got her break in acting later in life and I just reckon she is goals. Would love her on the podcast one day. And then there is Celeste Barber - She doesn't even need an explanation. Just a bloody legend.
