Jacquemus Announces It Will Hold a Physical Show in Paris This Month

French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus joins the short list of designers forging ahead with in person shows in the coming weeks and months, it has been revealed today. Taking to Instagram to announce his decision to hold a physical show for his Spring 2021 collection this month, Jacquemus revealed there will be a select number of guests invited who will adhere to social distancing guidelines and that the show will take place somewhere near Paris on July 16.

Jacquemus has shown off-calendar for the past few seasons, choosing instead to showcase his collections in a unisex format in June to capitalize on social media impact. In the statement posted on Instagram he introduced the show and collection (called L’Amour) writing, “A year go we decided to slow down our cycle by showing women’s wear and men’s wear together. This has allowed us to reduce the number of shows, share fabrics across both collections and slow the place for my team and partners. More than a creative choice, it’s a sustainable model we believe in and that works for us.”

No further details are known about the show, however it’s pretty safe to assume it will be nothing short of showstopping. The last show staged by the brand was in July 2019 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the label in which Jacquemus ran a hot pink catwalk through the middle of a lavender field in Provence.

Jacquemus joins the likes of Dior, Burberry and Fendi who have announced they are pressing ahead with physical runway shows in the coming months, however Fendi is the only other brand to confirm it will have an audience present for the show. Couture Week is currently underway in a totally digital format – see the virtual presentations here.

Steps to make onion rings.

Tips for Crispy Onion Rings:

When it comes to making the perfect batter for a fried (or baked) onion ring, there may be a few questions that come to mind.  Here is my advice on making the BEST onion rings you have ever had.  Follow these tips to master the art of a crispy onion ring your family will go crazy over!

  • How to get the best onion flavor: When biting into an onion ring, you want to get a sweet and bright onion flavor.  To achieve this unique flavor, you will need to start by soaking the onion slices in cold water.  Allow them to chill in the water for at least 10 minutes.  Dry them off completely before beginning to batter them.
  • How to keep batter from falling off onion rings: In order to keep that tasty and crispy breading on your onion you will want to use cold batter and hot oil.  Also, make sure you shake off any excess flour before dipping the onion in the egg mixture.  You need thin layers as you go.
  • How to cut the onion: Cut the stem end off and remove the peel. Then trim off the root end. Now cut a thin slice off the end of the onion to keep the onion from rolling while you slice it.  Finally, place the onion flat side down and cut cross wise into thick slices for the perfect onion rings.
  • How to get extra crispy onion rings: For an extra crispy coating, double dip the onion rings in the egg and panko mixture. Also, when cooling the onion rings, place them on a wire cooling rack with paper towels below it so that the crispy rings are not laying directly on the oil soaked paper towel as they cool.

Can I Freeze Battered Onion Rings?

Yes!  Place your onion rings in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer for up to a year.  To reheat, place in a 375 degree oven until heated through.

Channel Seven to Re-Play the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games So Light Your Torches

To get Australians excited for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, which were postponed earlier this year, Channel Seven has announced a two-part TV special where fans can rediscover all the unforgettable moments from the 2000 Sydney Olympics and, for the first time, hear the inside secrets behind the night's spectacular successes and near-disasters.

Seven will air The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Sydney 2000 Uncovered, on Wednesday, July 29 (just days after the one-year countdown to Tokyo), which features newly filmed interviews with the stars of the opening night, Vanessa Amorosi, James Morrison, Human Nature, Adam Garcia, Djakapurra Munyarryun and Nikki Webster.

Following that, on Wednesday, August 5, a two-hour special on the Olympic Games Sydney 2000 Moments that Moved Us, will allow fans to relive the extraordinary two weeks of competition where Australia won 58 medals - 16 gold, 25 silver and 17 bronze - and finished fourth on the medal table.

Hosted by Sunrise's Mark Beretta and Seven's Olympic Games experts, Bruce McAvaney, Johanna Griggs, Mark Beretta, Dennis Cometti, Pat Welsh, Lord Sebastian Coe, Tamsyn Manou and Raelene Boyle, the second part of the series will also revisit the Games of the XXVII Olympiad and catch up with some of the athletes who captivated the nation.

Head of Olympics and Commonwealth Games Seven West Media Andy Kay commented: "As one of only five countries that have competed at every Olympiad since 1896, the Olympic Games is deeply etched into Australia's sporting DNA. That was never more evident than in Sydney 2000. For those who were there and the many more who watched on Seven, the memories of Australia's greatest ever sporting moment will always remain. And with Tokyo 2020 now just one year away, what better time to relive the magic of Sydney – and to look forward to the next exciting chapter in our rich Olympic history."

Chief Revenue Officer and Director of Olympics Kurt Burnette added, "These moments are etched into Australian minds forever. We've seen research prove nostalgia has played a big role in the Australian psyche through COVID-19 and lockdown.

"We will use these great moments of the past to remind Australia of the good times, the pride and inspiration all of which can come again. Those elements have never been more relevant, to importantly then propel and project forward to Tokyo. To create anticipation and a sense of pride of what is to come. Culminating in a celebration on-air across Sunrise, 7NEWS, The Morning Show and our AFL coverage - with more celebration to come in September for the 20-year anniversary of Sydney 2000."

The Games of the XXXII Olympiad are scheduled to run from July 23 to August 8 next year.

What to do after you have a breakthrough

Threshold, crossed. You got there. After the grinding, the repetitive strain, the cord-cutting, the screams of release, the bliss of relief — the training paid off. Muscle burn got you across the finish line. Soul fire resurrected you. BREAKTHROUGH.

Rebirth happens. The ascension was real. There’s no turning back now. You are true and you ARE new.

Now what? (Because you’re in a new state. And that’s equally awesome and freaky. And you’re about to slip. Which is rough. And ironically, right on course.)

WHAT TO DO AFTER YOU HAVE A BREAKTHROUGH (in this order, give or take.)

Be so very gentle with yourself. Tenderness is essential. Birth requires recovery time. Athletes rest, they heal their blisters and let the lactic acid run its course. Soul seekers, you need to be quieter than usual. Let the change bake into your cells. Don’t shout about your revelations yet. Give yourself a few days to calibrate. Watch a movie. Put some rose oil on your third eye. Drink tea. Eat pasta. Head to the ocean. You know, the comfort stuff.

Notice that you’re noticing more now. A paradigm shift is a new way of seeing, so the grass actually looks greener, and you can hear what people are really saying, and yes you ARE looking sexier today. You’re sharper now and you will notice more. Keep it up.

Be prepared for some constriction.

This is really, really important:

“Expect to fall back — and be incredibly compassionate when the inevitable slip happens. This is the pattern of really big change: Big expansion. Slight constriction. Return to expansion. Micro constriction. Back to expansion — full, fuller, fullest. Expanded.”

You’re learning how to do the new you. You’re reacclimatizing to truth and joy and power. You’ll forget for a minute that you’re more powerful than you have ever been. And you’ll dip into an old pattern or habit. You’ll get all jangled and unnerved by the shit you “thought” you just surmounted. That’s cool. You’re on track. You’re re-confirming your expansion. You may be testing yourself. You may even be trying to sabotage yourself. It’s okay, Love. Because you can step back into your new, bigger size WAY more easily than before. Powering up is getting easier. Can you feel it?

Joy can be unsettling. Power can be terrifying. Newness is a mind trip. That’s all you need to know. It’s not that your breakthrough was false, it’s simply that this is… new. Remember how wobbly you were when you learned to ride a bike? Or the first time you drove fast, alone; or swam in the open ocean? This is new, this is new…this is…awe-awe-AWESOME! Stuttering with your new power doesn’t make it any less real. (Also, your new-found power is not afraid of your learning curve. It’s here to stay.)

Document the transformation. Write out your old-to-new ways of being. “I was hiding and silent. I call all of my power back to me. I saw the truth. I spoke the truth. Now I am visible. I feel power in my voice and visibility. I will speak only truth from now on. I’m truly free. Joy is in the freedom. I will keep bringing my joy to the surface.” Write about the revelation. Write about your new way of doing things.

Now declare that you’ve changed. Write a memo. Change a policy. Tell your most trusted friends about your transcendental experience. Talk about how you died and came back — stronger. Articulate what you let go of. Describe the New, True you.

Replay the breakthrough experience. This is key. There was a process that helped you get to the other side. It can be a simple as the eureka moment you had in the pub, talking it through with your mates; or it was the kundalini that shot up your spine in yoga class; or you smoked some peyote on a vision quest; or you cried it out and saw angels in your living room; or you finally fucking launched, or danced hard, or spoke UP. A breakthrough is a breakthrough. Go back to that magic moment when you woke up and recall how the light filled you. And keep calling on that light.

Keep pulsing open, into your power, WITH your power.
Focus on opening opening opening. Come on…

Don’t let the flash of insight stay just a flash. Tend it like a fire.
Stay with it. Feed your power appreciation and respect. Root DOWN.

Let the newness turn you on. Remember that your bones are full of throbbing marrow. Your cells are constantly renewing (physiologically speaking, you are not the same human you were seven years ago — all of your cells have turned over.) New is HOT.

Just believe me. Go ahead. Lean on my cosmic troops, they are 34-foot mighty angels and they love to show up. I’m telling you: And it’s impossible to turn back after you’ve seen the light. Stare into your own heart and you’ll know what I mean.

Power up,

DP sig

Every Question You've Ever Had About Rapid Weight Loss Answered By An Expert

For years, the idea of rapid weight loss has been deemed dangerous and unhealthy. However, recent studies have shown that rapid weight loss, when done in a healthy and controlled way, might actually be the most effective approach when it comes to achieving substantial and sustained weight loss.

To explain the theory and research further, POPSUGAR Australia spoke to diabetes expert, clinical dietitian, exercise physiologist and CEO and Founder of Be Fit Food, Kate Save, who unpacks this new research and answers all our questions rapid weight loss.

POPSUGAR Australia: What is rapid weight loss?

Kate: Rapid weight loss looks different for every individual as results can vary depending on age, gender, starting weight and lifestyle factors, such as activity levels. The range for rapid weight loss is generally between 37kg in the first two weeks, 7-10kg in the first four weeks and 10-15kg in the first eight weeks.

PS: For years, the idea of rapid-weight loss has been misunderstood and deemed dangerous and unhealthy. Can you please unpack this new research, and explain why rapid weight loss may be a more achievable and maintainable form of losing weight?

Kate: When undertaken in a nutritionally sound way, rapid weight loss is not dangerous or unhealthy. On the contrary, a very-low-calorie ketogenic diet that brings rapid weight loss has lots of other health benefits - it triggers a range of favourable metabolic changes including a reduction in blood sugar levels, blood pressure, fatty liver and blood lipid levels (blood fats known as triglycerides). It also reduces our insulin levels in the blood which trigger fat storage and can lead to improved insulin sensitivity over time hence improved fat-burning capacity.

While historically research has indicated gradual or slow continuous weight loss to be the best form of weight loss for long-term success, current research into rates of weight loss is indicating that rapid weight loss is actually the most effective approach and an individual is more likely to achieve substantial and sustained weight loss if the initial weight loss is rapid.

To unpack this a little, individuals who lose rapid weight over four weeks are more likely to achieve and maintain greater weight loss reductions at six months and 18 months in comparison to those who experience gradual weight loss. We have seen this in our Be Fit Food 28 Day Challenge participants time and time again.

Studies have also shown that the amount of weight loss experienced in the initial weight loss phase is significantly associated with the percentage of weight loss maintained. Rapid weight loss results in a higher percentage of weight loss maintained at 12 months, two years and three years.

PS: Is it true that you're more likely to put the weight back on after rapidly losing it?

Kate: A common misconception is that rapid weight loss causes weight to regain plus more. New evidence demonstrates there is no difference between slow and rapid initial weight loss regarding weight regain. Individuals that experienced greater initial weight loss did not experience a greater weight regain than those who lost weight at a slower initial rate.

Rapid weight loss has also been shown to be significantly more likely to achieve a successful and beneficial weight loss maintenance of 10 percent bodyweight reduction at 18 months compared to slow weight loss. Studies have concluded that the greater the initial weight loss in obese patients, the larger the total weight loss at long-term follow up.

PS: What are the different effects of rapid weight-loss and slow-continuous weight-loss on the body?

Kate: A loss of as little as 5 percent of your total body weight, i.e. 3.5kg for a 70kg female, will significantly reduce your risk of having a heart attack or stroke, plus it may also lower your risk of getting two of the most common kinds of cancer (breast and bowel). This is because rapid weight loss lowers inflammatory chemicals and hormones in the body which are linked to being overweight or obese, which in turn are attributed to boosting cancer rates in developed countries.

There are also many studies now showing that rapid weight loss is more effective for Diabetes management and even putting Type 2 Diabetes into remission than traditional low-fat diets. Be Fit Food's study found that just one week on a rapid diet resulted in lower blood glucose levels than the daily average. But the real magic of very-low-calorie dieting though is in the way your body and mind feels even after just one week – you start sleeping better, your energy levels are better and your self-esteem is boosted as your clothes start to feel looser. The natural ketones produced with mild nutritional ketosis even assist with suppressing your appetite at a brain level so that the diet starts to feel much easier.

PS: What are the risks associated with losing weight so quickly?

Kate: There are no evident risks associated with rapid weight loss outside of specific medical concerns and medication implications. In fact, a 5-10 percent decrease in body weight can bring about health benefits including blood glucose control, lowered cholesterol, improved mobility and sleep quality. It may also reduce the need for certain medications.

If there is a history of complex health conditions though, it is important to seek a health professional's advice before embarking on any weight loss program.

PS: Are there any red flags we should look out for?

Kate: Some individuals should avoid a very low-calorie diet, or at least consult a health professional before undertaking this kind of weight loss program, including:

  • Those who have a significant underlying medical condition or require medications
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • Children under 18 years
  • Those who are underweight and/or have a history of an eating disorder
  • People who have had a recent heart attack, experienced heart failure/Ischemic Heart Disease or have unstable angina.
  • People who are frail or recovering from surgery
  • Older adults >65
  • A person with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes
  • People who are taking insulin or any hypoglycemic agents
  • Women or men undertaking IVF and Fertility Treatment

PS: Do you have any tips for monitoring rapid weight-loss to ensure we are remaining healthy and safe?

Kate: It's a good idea to track weight loss results and weight loss averages to ensure effectiveness of a rapid weight loss program. Average weight loss should be between 1.5kg and 2.5 kg a week so if it was exceeding this you should see the advice of a health professional. You can also record measurements and photographs of your weight loss, to monitor and maintain its effects. People with diabetes or metabolic syndrome should, of course, monitor their blood glucose levels throughout a very low-calorie diet. If you have any of the health conditions listed above, you should also maintain frequent follow up with your GP. It's recommended that a very low-calorie diet is only undertaken for between two and eight weeks - you should consult a health professional or dietician before extending the diet beyond eight weeks.

You can also ensure you stay and feel healthy while dieting for rapid weight loss by managing the symptoms of ketosis appropriately, e.g. headache, lethargy, brain fog in the first three or four days. You should also maximise your water intake and rest time and avoid high-intensity training or exercise.

PS: Does rapid-weight-loss work for everyone?

Kate: Most individuals can participate in rapid weight loss. For those individuals with underlying health conditions or who are identified in the list above, it is best to consult a health care professional first. People with a high BMI along with metabolic issues, such as diabetes, or pre-diabetes, fatty liver and high cholesterol are ideal candidates for a rapid weight loss diet as they have significantly improved health outcomes when they lose 5-10 percent body weight.

PS: If people are looking for ways to lose weight this way, what simple, at-home steps can they take to start their journey?

Kate: The key to successful long term weight loss is dieting the right way, using only whole foods rather than synthetic meal replacements, plus enjoying what you are eating so you are more likely to maintain this new way of eating. Be Fit Food's Be Rapid program consists of meals that each include four-12 vegetables, is nutritionally complete and is designed to help you lose 5kgs in two weeks.

An ideal rapid weight loss diet consists of loads of plant-based foods including low carb vegetables, salads and fruits plus moderate amounts of proteins from meat, chicken, fish and tofu and healthy fats from nuts, seeds and various oils. This low-carb, Mediterranean style of eating helps you feel satisfied while preventing muscle mass losses, plus it stops your metabolic rate from crashing as you successfully achieve your weight loss goals.

PS: Can you recommend specific programs?

Kate: Be Fit Food's Be Rapid Program is a very low-calorie diet consisting of 3 meals and 1 snack per day. The Be Rapid Program provides approximately 820-920 calories and around 40-50g of carbohydrates per day, depending on what meals you choose. Weight loss on the Be Rapid Program occurs through two metabolic processes:

1. Mild Nutritional Ketosis

Mild nutritional ketosis is a state in which our body switches from using sugar (from carbohydrates) as its primary energy source to using our stored body fat. This process creates ketones. Mild nutritional ketosis is a state in which the ketone levels in our body are only slightly elevated (0.3-1.5mmol/l). Typical high fat ketogenic diets induce high levels of ketones, but evidence demonstrates that the weight loss results are the same regardless of whether the ketosis is mild or extreme. Mild nutritional ketosis is also associated with milder side effects.

How do we Induce this state?

Decreasing calories and carbohydrates induces mild nutritional ketosis. This results in a calorie deficit and promotes effective fat loss. The average weight loss of between 1kg and 2.5kg a week can be achieved when replacing all three meals each day with low carb, low-calorie meals from the Be Rapid Program. Our studies show that our customers have lost an average of 5kg in the first two weeks of following this program.*

2. Calorie Deficit

Calories are a measurement of the amount of energy a food provides. Adults typically consume around 2,000-2,500 calories per day on a standard Australian diet. When undertaking the Be Rapid Program we reduce your daily calorie intake to the level of a very low-calorie diet (VLCD) which is approximately 850-950 calories. This forces your body to use its body fat stores for energy. When you eat fewer calories than what your body requires to meet total energy expenditure, then you lose weight.

PS: Who should be consulted before embarking on a rapid weight-loss program?

Kate: Before starting any diet, it is always a good idea to see a dietitian, GP or other health care professional to ensure the diet is suited to you.
