Gucci is Back on Top as The World’s Hottest Brand

Gucci is officially the world’s hottest brand again, taking out the top spot in the Lyst Index Q3 report, up two spots since last quarter.

The Alessandro Michele-led brand was last on top in Q2 of 2019 (though it has remained in the top three), dethroned by Off-White and then Nike most recently in Q2 of 2020 (this was the first time a non-luxury brand topped the ranking). Gucci nabbed the crown thanks to the livestream of its Epilogue collection which amassed a whopping 35 million views globally, its F/W20 campaign which featured self portraits of models in their own homes and the launch of a genderless section on its website. According to the report, page views for the brand were up 52 per cent year on year, too.

Off-White came in second, Nike in third, Prada in fourth and Balenciaga in fifth place. Fendi, Versace, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Valentino rounded out the top 10 in that order. Marine Serre made its first appearance on the list this quarter at number 20 – and its crescent moon-printed top was also the second hottest product of the season for women. Telfar’s shopping bag was the number one product for women this quarter. “Starting from the relatively accessible price of $150, Telfar’s motto ‘Not for you, for everyone’ sums up the new mood that has swept fashion – and the world,” the report notes. “As a Black-owned brand that stood for inclusivity long before the BLM movement, Telfar has been well placed to capture the increase in purpose-driven shopping, with demand for the bag spiking 270 per cent.”

In menswear, the Dior x Nike Air Jordan 1 sneaker came in at number one, followed by a lot of casualwear items, including Birkenstocks, Nike joggers, UGG slippers, Balenciaga socks, Patagonina shorts and an Off-White hoodie. Prada’s lug sole boots took the seventh spot, whilst an Adidas face mask came in ninth.

Interestingly, the report noted that although Q2 saw more of a lean towards athleisure items and the menswear category certainly skewing towards a more casual aesthetic this quarter, the desire for fashion pieces remains strong. “Despite gloomy predictions in recent months, and some commentators asking if people will ever dress up again, there are clear signals that consumers still love fashion — and not just sweatpants or hoodies. Shoppers are willing to spend on brands that spark excitement and joy, while categories associated with life B.C. such as bags and high heels are rising again, global uncertainty notwithstanding.”

I'm a Trainer, and This Is My Stretching and Mobility Routine For Tight Hips and Muscles

No matter what type of physical activity you do, it's important to make sure you spend time stretching your muscles and working on your mobility. Holding long, static stretches will help improve your flexibility, which can improve your performance, prevent injury, and keep your body feeling and functioning at its best.

Mobility focuses on your range of motion, and it's important because it keeps your joints healthy, helps reduce injury, helps you move optimally, allows you to get stronger, and helps improve your performance. There are countless stretches and mobility exercises you can do, and I recommended working with a physical therapist or a trainer who is knowledgeable about mobility to see if there are any particular areas of your body you should focus on.

My "flows" can easily take 30 minutes to do, but ahead, I've shared an abbreviated version I do that really focuses on spinal and hip mobility. If you're new to mobility work, some of these movements may have you feeling as if you're doing resistance training, and that's normal. But with that said, you should never feel pain while doing any type of movement, and if you do, stop doing the movement.

You can do all of these movements together as a flow, or you can pick and choose the ones you like and add them to your movement routine. I recommend going through this routine (or any type of mobility and stretch routine) daily to feel and see the benefits, but do what works best for you!

Meatloaf and Brown Gravy

This Meatloaf and Brown Gravy is a family favorite, this one is made a bit healthier than most, with a mix of half beef and ground turkey plus nutritious oats, topped with a delicious brown gravy – comfort food at its finest!

Meatloaf and Gravy with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Meatloaf and Brown Gravy

This Meatloaf and Brown Gravy is the best meatloaf recipe ever! When I crave comfort food, this meatloaf hits the spot. I have tons of turkey meatloaf recipes, but for this recipe I wanted it to taste more like a classic beef meatloaf. To keep it light, I used a blend of lean ground beef and turkey with oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs. And if you want some other meatloaf ideas, try Cheese-Stuffed Turkey Meatloaf and Bacon-Topped Petite Turkey Meatloaf with BBQ Sauce.

Loewe Just Launched a New Upcycling-Focused Collection

With its utilitarian design focus and use of upcycling, Loewe’s new Eye/Loewe/Nature offering brings together some very key concepts for 2020: being sustainably-minded and ready for anything.

“The Loewe man, in my vision, is an escapist just as much as he is practical: someone who loves adventures, of any kind, and has a fondness for the great outdoors,” creative director Jonathan Anderson said in a statement about the collection, which launched today. “These two elements come together in [this] collection of technical essentials designed to dive in to nature, as the name itself suggests.”

Within the selection you’ll find parkas, patchwork shirting and trousers, as well as accessories like a convertible backpack made by reusing fabric from old camouflage jackets, a detachable drink cozy, toques, gloves and a rugged take on an athleisure sneaker.

Bolstering Loewe’s reputation as a highly craft-centric luxury label, materials featured in the collection range from upcycled cotton to knits crafted with recycled plastic bottles, with cold weather items incorporating Gore-Tex for the seasonal dip in temperature.

Also of note is Loewe’s use of proceeds from sales of the collection’s items; 15 euros from each piece sold will go to environmental causes.

What Exactly Are Cannabis Terpenes?

There’s a lot to love about the new wave of cannabis beverages. An alternative adult drink for hanging out and entertaining, these social beverages are made with ingredients that are delicious and flavourful.

On the premium end, the Truss family of cannabis beverages are made from high-quality ingredients and feature great, naturally sourced flavours. Taste is a prime objective here—the beverages are designed and formulated by mixologists and produced locally at a dedicated facility in Belville, Ont. Each beverage gives you a controlled dosage—which is key—resulting in a more consistent experience than with, say, traditional edibles.

Some cannabis beverages explore the use of terpenes. A newly added term to our lexicon thanks to the legalization of cannabis, terpenes refer to the aromatic oils that give cannabis and other plants, fruits and flowers their distinctive flavours, like citrus, berry, mint and pine. Many factors influence a plant’s development of terpenes, including climate, weather, age and maturity and terroir. If you’re consuming cannabis beverages, scent is as important a part of the experience as flavour, and the two things are inextricably linked. Just think about the scents and tastes you’re most drawn to. You gravitate to them based on genetic makeup or the fact that they might be tied to meaningful memories. Cannabis consumers, just like fragrance lovers, may be partial to certain terpenes. Some well- known terpenes include limonene (a citrus notes that can be found in fruit rinds and rosemary), myrcene (a peppery scent with an unexplored earthy spiciness), pinene (a hint of pine), linalool (a lavender scent), and more.

Truss specializes only in cannabis beverages, including sparkling tonics that elevate the taste of the cannabis plant and bring you previously uncharted flavour profiles. One of its brands is House of Terpenes, consisting of botanically sourced, terpene-forward tonics in two flavours; Limonene and Sparkling Tonic is bright and citrusy with notes of lemon, tangerine and thyme, along with West Coast hop flavours that add an elevated citrus flavour and a complex finish. Myrcene and Sparkling Tonic has notes of tarragon, clove and cinnamon, plus orange peel; pairing the tonic base with the bitterness of cannabis allows the myrcene flavour to shine through.

For more on the Truss portfolio of beverages, see here. Cannabis beverages can be a great alternative to what adult Canadians are used to sipping at dinner or at a get-together, in person or virtual. If you’re a newbie to their wonders and doses, one rule to keep in the back of your mind: start low and sip slow. Check in with yourself from time to time and adjust as you see fit.

Check out part one of the series here, in which we give an introduction on what cannabis beverages are. Up next in part three: Which cannabis beverage is right for you?

Beyoncé’s Makeup Artist Sir John Reveals His Favourite Mascara (And It’s Under $20)

If there’s one beauty product we here at FASHION will never get sick of trying, it’s mascara. And with good reason. A good mascara has the ability to transform your overall look in just one swipe (woke up five mins before your morning Zoom meeting? A lashing of mascara will make you look like you’ve been awake for hours) and with so many innovations and new launches in the space, there’s always one (or 10) to try. We also love knowing what’s in the kits of the world’s top makeup artists and Sir John – the man responsible for some of Beyoncé’s most iconic makeup looks – has just revealed his favourite mascara, which you can pick up at your local drugstore for under $20.

The renowned MUA joined skincare guru Tata Harper for an Instagram Live session last night, during which he shared his go-to 15-minute beauty routine when he’s in a time pinch (which he says he perfected whilst working in a strip club earlier in his career). After walking Harper through an easy eye look, Sir John had nothing but praise for the L’Oréal Paris Air Volume Mega Mascara (which launched in Canada this month). Talking to Harper and viewers he said, “Look at this guy, look at this brush. This brush has so much product on it, I can’t even describe to you… if you know makeup like I know makeup, this is the brush to have.”

The newest formula from L’Oréal Paris (for whom Sir John is an ambassador) has a double-bristle brush which simultaneously catches roots from the lashes and evenly distributes the air-whipped formula to deliver max volume.

This isn’t the first time Sir John has opted for a mascara from the brand either – to create Beyoncé’s now-legendary Coachella beauty look, he used the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara.

Sir John also shared a variety of top tips during the tutorial – like starting to fill your brows in above the pupil so it doesn’t look too dense in the middle and dragging your eyeliner with your finger to create the perfect feline flick.
