How Holographic Hair Became the Hottest Trend for 2020

What do the likes of Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski and Elsa Hosk have in common? Aside from names beginning with the same letter and enviable cheekbones, they’re also not afraid to experiment with their hair colours. Ranging from blue to pink and purple, dipped ends to full colour, pastel to powerhouse metallics, these stars have switched up their locks with stunning results. And thanks to these transformations, holographic hair has become the biggest hair trend for 2020.

“Holographic hair is characterized by a mixture of high-gloss multi-dimensional pastel highlights that essentially appear to change colours before your very eyes,” according to L’Oréal Paris. “The colours are expertly placed to create a 3D holographic effect throughout your mane.”

Coloured hair has had a makeover in recent years, moving from rebellious teenager to free-spirited college student to empowered adult with agency over her own look. This change in societal perception, and the ease with which we’re now able to experiment with our hair, makes trying trends all the more enticing. Plus, as we’ve all been spending more time at home in recent, more of us are trying our hand at bold, at-home colour.

Feeling inspired? See some of our favourite celebrity holographic hair looks below:

If you’re ready to try the trend and want to ease in, L’Oréal Paris’ Colorista Hair Makeup Temporary 1-Day Hair Colour is the way to go. All you need to do is apply the product on the parts of your hair you’d like to colour et voila: on-trend tresses with zero commitment (the colour washes out with just one shampoo). Depending on your base colour, the style will look slightly different on each person meaning your look is unique to you.

Watch our how-to video below for a more detailed look on how to apply Colorista at-home:

Need a little good news in your life on this Monday morning? Nordstrom Canada’s Anniversary Sale is right around the corner. This year marks the sixth that the retail giant’s annual sale extravaganza will be available to Canadian consumers and the first time that the sale will be available through Nordstrom’s Canadian e-commerce site which launched earlier this year. Below, find everything you need to know about this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in Canada.

When does it start?

The sale officially starts on August 19 in-store, and August 20 on Nordstrom.ca. However, if you’re a Nordy Club member, you’ll be given early access in-store from August 16-18.

How long does it go for?

The sale will run online and in-store until September 3.

What’s so special about the sale?

Unlike many other sales, Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale includes markdowns on brand new arrivals, offering customers exclusive deals on new season pieces for a limited time. This year, the sale will feature an extended assortment of loungewear, activewear and home items in response to customer demand as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and our new normal.

What brands are participating?

There’s a bunch of brands available to shop in this year’s sale across womenswear, menswear, beauty, wellness, home, footwear and more. Some of the brands on offer include: Frame Denim, Madewell, Smythe, Nike, Adidas, La Mer, Charlotte Tilbury, Tom Ford, Sweaty Betty, Paige, Champion, Vince, AG Jeans, Ugg, Rachel Parcell and Nordstrom Made brands Treasure & Bond, BP., Halogen, Tucker + Tate, 1901, Zella and Nordstrom Home.

Scroll through the gallery below for a sneak peek at some of the savings on offer during this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in Canada:

Will there be any virtual events as part of the sale?

Indeed there will be. Nordstrom’s national beauty director Autumne West and regional beauty manager Kevin Sifflet are hosting 12 virtual glam sessions over the duration of the sale. These will include informational sessions with experts on hair and skin tools, and self-care, as well as masterclasses with pro makeup artists from Charlotte Tilbury, MAC Cosmetics, Trish McEvoy and Bobbi Brown, and skincare experts from Clinique, La Mer, Kiehl’s, Lancôme and Estée Lauder. See the full event line-up, and RSVP, here.

Are there any other perks for Nordy Club members?

Yep! Any Nordy Club member shopping the sale in-store can pop by the Nordstrom restaurant or Ebar for a complimentary cup of coffee while they shop the sale. Perfect for helping you power through the racks!

As always, Nordstrom will continue to offer a range of other benefits to all customers – including contactless curbside pickup, virtual styling appointments, free standard shipping and returns and in-store online order pick-up – so you can choose how you want to shop, and when.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love all kinds of oatmeal cookies, but I know that for most people, chocolate wins over raisins!

I’m a little picky about oatmeal cookies.

They have to be crispy on the edges and chewy through the middle. Never too thick or fluffy!

These cookies are thick enough that they won’t break, but thin enough that they’re not cakey.

And since we can control the texture further by flattening our cookie dough balls (for thinner, chewier cookies) or leaving them tall, they really are the perfect cookie for everyone.

These Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies have a great base that you can use with lots of different add ins, and I’ve included a list below so you can mix and match.

close up image of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

How to Make Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  1. Start with room temperature butter — you don’t want it too cold or too warm! Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy and incorporated.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
  3. Add all of the dry ingredients, except the chocolate chips, and mix it up.
  4. Add in your chips and stir well.
  5. Bake — I don’t chill my dough before baking, since I like thinner, chewy cookies with crispy edges, but you could! I like to press my cookies down slightly so they don’t turn out too thick.
  6. Let sit for 5-10 minutes before removing from the baking sheet. This way, they won’t fall apart and will continue to set up!

Variations On These Oatmeal Cookies:

  • Swap the chocolate chips for raisins, or include both!
  • Swap the chocolate chips for butterscotch, peanut butter, white chocolate, or any other kind of chip your heart desires.
  • Add in white chocolate chips and dried cranberries
  • Add in 1/4 cup of toasted coconut
  • Add in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for some warmth

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups large rolled oats
  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla and beat until smooth.
  • Add oats, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt and stir with an electric mixer or by hand until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls (if you’re using a cookie scoop, you’ll want to use a 2 or 3 TBSP scoop) onto parchment paper 2-3 inches apart (I do 9 per pan). If you like thinner, chewier cookies, press down slightly.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 9-10 minutes, until the edges are beginning to brown and the centers are almost set (a tiny bit of glossiness in the center is good, as they will continue to set).
  • Let sit for 5-10 minutes before removing from the pan to cool completely.
