Yes, Harry Styles Is Taken and It’s Time We Talk About It

No one likes to hear that Harry Styles is in a relationship. I mean, since the 27-year-old star transcended his One Direction boy-band era, he has solidified his role as the internet’s forever man-crush — thanks to his famously gender-blurring style and award-winning music. So when the news broke earlier this year that he and filmmaker Olivia Wilde were together, the reaction from fans to a Harry Styles Olivia Wilde romance was not exactly filled with excitement.

But now that he and Wilde, 37, have been together for months, they have become one of the internet’s favourite celeb couples, known for their mutually supportive dynamic and stylish outings. It’s time we talk about the couple’s most memorable moments together, so read on for a Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde relationship timeline.

September 2020: A Harry Styles Olivia Wilde meet-cute on set

The duo get to know each other on the set of Don’t Worry Darling, a psychological thriller directed by Wilde herself. Styles was cast to play Jack, the husband of Florence Pugh’s Alice, replacing Shia Lebeouf who was reportedly fired from the role by Wilde after clashing with the cast and crew. Wilde later gushes about her excitement of having Styles in the film. She praises the British singer for his experimental style, telling People that his brand of confidence is “truly devoid of any traces of toxic masculinity.”

November 2020: News breaks that Wilde and fiancé Jason Sudeikis have split

It’s confirmed that Wilde and actor Jason Sudeikis, who have two young children together and were engaged, broke up earlier in the year. The decision was mutual, as reported by ET Online, and the two are focused on co-parenting.

January 2021: Wilde is Styles’s plus-one at a wedding

Countless hearts are broken when photos published by Page Six of the duo at Styles’s manager’s wedding hit social media. Wilde, wearing a long bohemian floral dress, walks hand-in-hand with Styles, who sports a well-fitted black suit and a white dress shirt with lace detailing. Styles also allegedly calls Wilde his “girlfriend” that night, a milestone in any blossoming romance.

January 2021: PDA in the age of COVID-19

After news of their relationship went viral, the two are seemingly less concerned about hiding their affection for one another. Photos published by Daily Mail show them enjoying a (masked) outing with friends in Santa Barbara, California, where they hold hands and lock arms.

February 15, 2021: Wilde reaffirms her affection for Styles on Instagram

After wrapping Don’t Worry Darling, Wilde shares a heartwarming statement about Styles on her IG, under a black and white photo of him sitting on a convertible, looking fly as ever. “Little known fact: most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films. The industry has raised them to believe it lessens their power (i.e financial value) to accept these roles, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard to get financing for movies focusing on female stories,” she writes. “Enter: @harrystyles, our “Jack”. Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our ‘Alice’, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity.” Um, adorable!

March 15, 2021: Wilde celebrates Styles’s Grammy win via pop culture references

At the 63rd annual Grammys ceremony, Styles wins his first Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for the single “Watermelon Sugar.” Wilde takes to Instagram Stories to (somewhat subtly) praise her beau. She posts a picture of Paul McCartney eating a watermelon (seemingly a nod to Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar”) and Mick Jagger in a leather jacket with no shirt and a scarf (similar to the look Styles rocked at the Grammys). We love a hidden message!

April 2021: Gallivanting in London

After they wrap filming, Styles and Wilde spend some downtime together in London, England. On their trip, Us Weekly reports that they’re spotted hanging at local pubs and strolling around the city. Stars — they’re just like us!

July 5, 2021: Wilde and Styles kiss on a boat… in Italy

Every budding celebrity romance needs a vacation yacht makeout moment. Snaps released by Page Six show Wilde and Styles on a boat kissing, laughing and dancing during a trip to Italy — as they should. Around this time, a source tells Us Weekly that Wilde is “smitten by Harry,” and “he makes her really happy.”

August 8: Harry sports his fashionable moustache while the couple strolls around Los Angeles

Upon returning from their romantic vacay, photos of the two walking around L.A. are published by the Daily Mail. A critical detail of the photos is Styles’s newly reinstated moustache, which has on its own been the subject of much media attention. Some even pointed out the similarities between his ]stache and the one Wilde’s ex, Sudeikis, sports in his show Ted Lasso. Wilde and Styles appear to be as in sync as ever, both wearing white tees and ripped jeans. The stylish duo is relishing in their summer romance, and we support it!

Kate Winslet Is Bringing Her Famously Self-Deprecating Humour to the Beauty Industry

“I’ve been dealing with ‘Zoom face’ just as much as everyone else,” Kate Winslet tells me over — what else — a Zoom call. She’s referring to the recently coined term that describes the psychological toll of staring at our own faces during frequent video meetings over the past year, leading many to the discovery of facial imperfections that, prior to 2020, they were completely oblivious to. For some, it’s been a new forehead wrinkle or two that can’t be unseen. For Winslet, ‘Zoom face’ has led her to ponder the peculiarity of her eyebrows in relation to one another — at least according to her. “I’ve been noticing that one eyebrow is lower than the other, and if I’m really tired, it’s way lower,” she says. I reassure her that brows are meant to be cousins, not twins, anyway, and with a laugh she immediately snaps out of having a single care about the placement of her eyebrows and into the self-deprecating humour that she’s known for. “It’s funny, I’ll be in the middle of an interview and I’ll be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m so sorry but I just noticed that my left eyebrow has fallen halfway down my face’.” It’s the type of mid-interview interruption that she’s earned the right to make at this point in her career, she jokes.

Of course, it’s not just her impressive acting career (which spans over 25 years and includes multiple Academy Award nominations and a Best Actress win) that’s shaped her ability to exist in Hollywood — an industry notorious for its rigid standards and a reputation for taking itself too seriously — with the type of ease and unwavering casualness that is so synonymous with the actress. It’s simply that it has never occurred to her to be anything other than herself. “The perfect Hollywood woman is a myth,” she says. “So [I’d rather] be someone who is accessible to other women.”

Winslet says that when she first made her debut in Hollywood, being honest and frank was something that came to her as a result of, and perhaps even a defence mechanism against, feeling under a lot of scrutiny in the industry. “When Titanic came out, there was a lot of conversation about my [appearance] and weight, which was such a shock to me because I had a very average body shape. It was very important to me to come out the other side of that having said, ‘Hang on a minute; the problem is yours, not mine.’ It’s why I continue to say the things [I do], because they give validation to the majority of women who are, like me, of average size.” This long-standing, deeply ingrained confidence is even more impressive considering the fact that Winslet was only 22 when Titanic was released, a time that is often associated with navigating issues of self-esteem and body image. Now, 24 years later, Winslet says she’ll “never tire of being a spokesperson for the majority of us.”

That role, which has cemented her place as one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures, has led her to another spokesperson title, this time with L’OrĂ©al Paris as the new face of the brand’s Age Perfect line. Her first order of business is appearing in campaigns for the newly launched Age Perfect Cell Renewal Midnight Serum ($48), a product that flips the idea of antioxidants as a solely protective daytime ingredient on its head. Instead, it emphasizes the importance of using an antioxidant product at night as well, when skin is in repair mode, to undo the damage done throughout the daytime. But rest assured — it simultaneously does all of the usual, good stuff associated with nighttime products, too (like encouraging cell turnover and revealing more radiant skin).

Perhaps, given what is known about the actress, this next point is stating the obvious, but Winslet is a die-hard fan of minimalist skincare, never having been tempted by dozen-step routines and endless shelves lined with expensive potions. “I don’t believe that good skincare should be expensive, either,” she says. “So If someone can only afford one product, this [multipurpose] serum can be it.”

The product’s multitasking approach is key for Winslet, who, over the last year and a half at home, has wholeheartedly embraced a ‘less is more’ approach to beauty. “To me, the worlds of celebrity and beauty are totally separate and disconnected [from my real life],” she says. “It just takes a lot of effort and time, and I’d rather be spending that time with my kids. Of course there are fun moments, like walking the red carpet and celebrating a movie release, but those moments still feel like my job. My real world is so different from that.”

No, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer Likely Aren’t Dating — But We Kinda Wish They Were

On August 10, the internet went into a full-on frenzy when Closer magazine reported that former Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer are dating. The tabloid reported that the two have been getting closer since the sitcom’s reunion back in May, adding that they have been bonding over intimate dinners, vineyard strolls, and deep conversations. Could it be?! Are David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston together in real life after all these years?

Naturally, Friends fans were swept off their feet with this unexpected hit of nostalgia. After all, Ross (played by Schwimmer) and Rachel (played by Aniston) were the fan-favourite, on-again-off-again couple of the 10-season comedy series that aired in the ’90s and early 2000s. Fans fell for them even more after their appearances on the Friends reunion in May, when both actors revealed they had feelings for each other while filming the show. At the time, Schwimmer reflected on their mutual feelings, saying, “it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship.” They never dated IRL, so they “channelled all of [their] adoration and love for each other into Ross and Rachel,” said Aniston. And all these years later, they’re finally both single at the same time! *Cue rom-com music*

A Friends cast reunion and the real-life coupling of a beloved on-screen item — all in the span of four months — sounded almost too good to be true. And as it turns out, it likely was. Schwimmer denied the romance rumours via a representative on August 11, telling TheIndependent they hold “no truth.” Way to crush our dreams, Ross.

Even though the Aniston-Schwimmer dating rumour has been effectively debunked, a case study could be done on the way the internet ran with this news. Amid grim climate reports and ongoing COVID-19 anxiety, existential dread is real. And while celebrities don’t owe us a relationship, it’s quite obvious that the alleged real-life pairing of one of our favourite on-screen duos was a happy distraction from the chaos in the world. In light of the rumour, one user wrote, “I think this is the one chance we have as a planet for world peace.” Clearly, we’re all a little fragile right now.

We’ll simply have to live out our early aughts celeb couple nostalgia through Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who are are still very much an item. They understood the assignment!

Greta Thunberg Covers Vogue Scandinavia and Calls for Change in the Fashion Industry

Climate activist Greta Thunberg is calling out the fashion industry. The 18-year-old Swedish environmentalist is the first to grace the cover of the newly launched Vogue Scandinavia. The August/September issue, which was released on August 8, shows Thunberg in a serene forest, sitting against a moss-covered tree while gently petting a horse. She is wearing a yellow floral dress and an oversized, upcycled trench made from discarded coats.

Thunberg first became known in 2018 for her “School Strike for Climate” campaign that inspired students across the globe to protest climate change. Now, she’s recognized worldwide for her activism and personal commitment to environmental change. In her Vogue Scandinavia interview, Thunberg discussed her outlook on consuming fashion. For starters, she doesn’t, really. “The last time I bought something new was three years ago and it was second-hand. I just borrow things from people I know,” she said.

She followed up with a harsh truth: “If you are buying fast fashion then you are contributing to that industry and encouraging them to expand and encouraging them to continue their harmful process.” While fast fashion offers accessibility to the newest trends, it can lead to overconsumption and waste. Fast fashion brands produce clothing quickly and at low prices, often resulting in consumers buying more than they need and consequently throwing clothes away at a faster rate. Thunberg added that despite this, she “[understands] that for some people fashion is a big part of how they want to express themselves and their identity.”

She continued the conversation on Twitter, saying, “The fashion industry is a huge contributor to the climate and ecological emergency, not to mention its impact on the countless workers and communities who are being exploited around the world in order for some to enjoy fast fashion that many treat as disposables.” She called out corporations for greenwashing: attempting to appear environmentally conscious while practicing harmful methods behind the scenes. “You cannot mass produce fashion or consume ‘sustainably’ as the world is shaped today. That is one of the many reasons why we will need a system change.” she said.

This kind of systemic change was addressed in the August 9 climate report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report’s alarming findings state that humanity is unequivocally at fault for climate change — and that its severe consequences are happening now. Among the findings was a projection that within the next two decades, temperatures are likely to rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, which was the goal temperature set at the 2015 Paris climate agreement. The results of climate change can be seen through rising seas and extreme weather conditions like wildfires, droughts and floods — and the IPCC report confirms that not all of these changes are reversible.

In response to the report, Thunberg tweeted that it “contains no real surprises.” “It is up to us to be brave and take decisions based on the scientific evidence provided in these reports,” she said in a series of tweets. “We can still avoid the worst consequences, but not if we continue like today, and not without treating the crisis like a crisis.”

The IPCC report was released ahead of the November COP26 climate meeting in Glasgow, Scotland. The climate conference will host leaders from 196 countries, with the goal of agreeing on action to limit climate change. In her interview with Vogue Scandinavia, Thunberg said the change needed to solve the climate crisis can only come from the determination of individuals, who can then put pressure on those in power. “It needs to come through awareness and from people realizing that we are in an emergency,” she said. Hopefully, the IPCC report will be the first step towards inspiring that urgency.

Prince Andrew Can’t Hide Behind His Royal Status Anymore

On August 9, Virginia Roberts Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Prince Andrew, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was just 17 years old, as reported by the New York Times. Giuffre, now 38, is a longtime accuser of Jeffrey Epstein, the accused sex offender who maintained a friendship with Prince Andrew for 20 years. Epstein died by suicide in jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges two years ago, and many high-profile members of his inner circle, including Prince Andrew, have since been suspected of taking part in the sexual abuse of minors.

The Manhattan-filed court documents allege that Queen Elizabeth II’s second-born son abused Giuffre on three occasions about 20 years ago. They allege he forced her to have sex with him at the London home of Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite and Epstein associate who has been charged with recruiting and grooming victims for Epstein to abuse. Further, Giuffre’s lawsuit alleges that Prince Andrew abused her at Epstein’s mansion in New York City and on Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“Prince Andrew committed sexual assault and battery upon Plaintiff when she was 17 years old,” the lawsuit states, as per CNN. “As such, Prince Andrew is responsible for battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress pursuant to New York common law. The damage to Plaintiff has been severe and lasting.”

This is not the first time Giuffre has made these accusations against Prince Andrew. In 2019, she told the BBC that she was trafficked by Epstein and forced to have sex with the Duke of York when she was underage. Buckingham Palace swiftly came to Prince Andrew’s defence and denied her allegations completely, issuing a statement to CNN that said, “It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.”

Prince Andrew also responded to the allegations at the time, via a now-infamous BBC interview, which he surely must regret in hindsight. During the interview — which proved that acting doesn’t come naturally to everyone — the royal “categorically” denied all claims of sexual abuse. He also tried really hard to convince us that he and Epstein were never that good of friends.

The royal denied claims made by Giuffre that she vividly remembers him sweating profusely while the two of them danced at a London nightclub. This is not possible, according to Prince Andrew, because a injury caused him to have a peculiar unnamed medical condition that prevents him from sweating altogether. In response to a literal photo of them together, which shows him holding her around the waist while Maxwell smiles in the background, he said he didn’t recollect the photo being taken and that it could have been doctored.

The 2019 interview was a self-inflicted disaster and ultimately led Prince Andrew to step down from royal duties and public life with no plans to return. But since then, the media has been largely silent about the royal, despite the severity of the accusations against him. The silence surrounding Prince Andrew is even more frustrating when put in contrast to the ongoing media scrutiny of another royal, Meghan Markle, who has been the subject of racist remarks and bullying — leading her to have suicidal thoughts during her time at the palace.

Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew quickly brushed off Giuffre’s sexual assault allegations in 2019 — and this very type of denial is a reason psychologists say victims often don’t come forward. When speaking out against powerful people and institutions, victims are particularly at risk of enduring gaslighting and public scrutiny. The lawsuit changes things by formalizing the accusations and putting public and legal pressure on the royal to acknowledge them in a more fulsome way. Plus, Buckingham Palace isn’t rushing to his defence this time. Palace officials have declined to comment on the lawsuit, saying that this is a matter for Prince Andrew’s legal team, according to CBC’s Dominic Valitis.

David Boies, a lawyer for Giuffre, said that since Prince Andrew is outside of the court’s jurisdiction, the papers would have to be served to him within the United Kingdom. If he is difficult to locate, the court could order that the papers be sent to one of his representatives.

Court documents highlight the alleged control that Epstein, Maxwell and Prince Andrew had over Giuffre, with the accuser saying she feared to disobey them because of their “powerful connections, wealth, and authority.” Two years after his death, a fund set up to compensate victims of Epstein has awarded almost $125 million to about 150 individuals. Maxwell is awaiting her trial in November of this year. While it’s likely Prince Andrew believed his royal status would absolve him of ever having to face these allegations, all these years later, some form of justice just might be served.

“I am holding Prince Andrew accountable for what he did to me,” said Giuffre, via her lawyers, in a statement to ABC News. “The powerful and the rich are not exempt from being held responsible for their actions. I hope that other victims will see that it is possible not to live in silence and fear, but one can reclaim her life by speaking out and demanding justice.”

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Are the New Faces of Tiffany & Co.

Is there anything BeyoncĂ© can’t do? I ask this as a serious question. The music icon, entrepreneur (she’s the founder of media conglomerate Parkwood Entertainment), fashion designer (hello, Ivy Park!), mother of three and overall goddess is adding another title to her already stacked resumĂ©: the new face of Tiffany & Co.

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Announced by WWD in tandem with the unveiling of BeyoncĂ©’s Harper’s Bazaar September issue covers (yes, there are multiple), the fashion news outlet reported that both Bey and Jay-Z will be featured in Tiffany’s next ad campaign. Teasing us with what’s to come, Queen B posted various photos from her September shoot, and can be seen dripping in diamonds courtesy of the heritage jeweller. As we anxiously await more details, here’s what we know so far about BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z’s Tiffany partnership.

So, Beyoncé and Jay-Z will appear together in Tiffany & Co. ads?

That’s right, this is shaping up to be something of a family affair, with the “Crazy in Love” couple starring in the next ad for the iconic brand (although it’s still unclear if we’ll get to see the entire Carter clan). It’s been five years since we last saw the power couple on screen together in a 2016 Ivy Park campaign video, and we can’t wait.

What Tiffany collection will Beyoncé and Jay-Z be modelling?

We don’t know which collection will mark BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z’s Tiffany debut, but it will likely be fall or holiday 2021. As Tiffany & Co. launched a dedicated men’s jewellery line less than two years ago and introduced its first-ever men’s engagement ring this past April, the rapper’s involvement in the campaign teases the possibility for a new male line.

When will the Bey and Jay Tiffany & Co. images be released?

Tiffany’s recently announced their plan to roll out campaigns in September and October that include new celebrity ambassadors, but who will appear in what collection is still unclear. We can hopefully expect an official statement soon, but until then, we’ll be obsessively stalking Queen B’s Instagram — more than we already do, of course.

What makes this Tiffany’s campaign different?

A post shared by Tiffany & Co. (@tiffanyandco)

When luxury conglomerate LVMH (home to 75 designer brands) acquired Tiffany & Co. in 2020, it made headlines around the world. In the most expensive fashion deal of the century, the French corporation bought the jewellery brand for $15.8 billion, and promised big changes. A year into the merger and LVMH is making good on its word. In a guerilla-style marketing approach last month, the streets of New York City and Los Angeles were splattered with posters of the new ad campaign with the messaging, “Not Your Mother’s Tiffany.” Gone are the references to Audrey Hepburn and use of Tiffany blue, and in their place are edgy cool girls, modelling silver linked necklaces and organically shaped cuffs. One Instagram user wrote on a post, “Yep. You’re right. I like my mother’s Tiffany. Good luck with this. None for me, thanks.” LVMH is known for its dramatic shakeups of luxury labels (think Hedi Slimane’s punk takeover after Phoebe Philo’s minimalist tenure at Celine), some feel it’s a gamble for the brand admired for its heritage and timeless appeal.

The introduction of BeyoncĂ© and Jay-Z as Tiffany’s new faces signal that the luxury behemoth has no plans to slow down the rebranding of Tiffany & Co., and honestly, we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next.
